Where it comes from
Rajneesh, later known as OSHO, was an Indian philosophy professor who began teaching meditation and tantra in the early 1970s. His ashram in Pune (and later in Oregon) drew tens of thousands of Western seekers and effectively launched Neo-Tantra as a category.
What you actually do
Active meditations (often loud, cathartic, hour-long) as preparation for stillness and partnered tantric practice. The active meditations are the signature contribution.
Common misconceptions
- OSHO Tantra is what all tantra is (it is one branch of Neo-Tantra)
- It is a closed cult (the broader OSHO scene is decentralized today)
Who this is best for
- People drawn to active, cathartic preparation for stillness
- People with lots of energy looking for a containment practice
Who this is NOT for
- People uncomfortable with the controversial OSHO biography
- People wanting strictly seated practice
How it shows up in Tantra Clinic programs
We use a simplified version of OSHO Kundalini Meditation as a 15-minute preparation for partnered practice in some programs.
