COSRT

Definition

COSRT — the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists — is the UK's principal professional body for qualified sexual and relationship therapists. COSRT maintains a register of accredited therapists who have met its training, supervision, and ethical conduct requirements. COSRT-accredited practitioners have typically completed a postgraduate qualification in psychosexual and relationship therapy, with supervised clinical hours, and adhere to a published code of ethics and professional practice.

COSRT is a member organisation of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and operates the UK register that patients and referring professionals can use to find qualified sexual health therapists. It covers the full range of sexual and relationship therapy presentations including desire difficulties, sexual dysfunction, gender identity, relationship transitions, and sexual trauma.

Where the word comes from

COSRT was established in the UK in 1976 as the British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy (BASRT), drawing on the clinical work of psychosexual medicine pioneers including Masters and Johnson in the US and the development of psychosexual therapy in the UK through clinicians including Paul Brown and Patricia Gillan. The organisation rebranded as COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists) to better reflect its standards and accreditation function.

In Tantra Clinic practice

For clients in the United Kingdom seeking in-person sex therapy alongside or following a Tantra Clinic program, we recommend checking the COSRT accredited therapist register as the appropriate quality benchmark. COSRT registration confirms meeting the core professional standards of training, ongoing supervision, and ethical conduct relevant to sensitive sexual health presentations.
